Bankwest, previously known as The Bank of Western Australia, is an Australian full-service bank based in Perth, Western Australia. It was sold in October 2008 to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia for A$2.1 billion and operates as a division of its parent company. Bankwest also has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney.

This is a Bankwest Home Loan review posted on Mozo on September 2020:

"Worst experience with any financial institution. I'm shocked and disgusted by the way this bank handles itself. Last year whilst overseas my card was used fraudulently to the tune of 14k all at a venue I was at for a short period of time. I asked them to investigate and send me the dockets which should highlight that the transactions were fraudulent and I was not in the same venue for 19 hours!!!.. which should have been an obvious giveaway something was not right in the first place! After 20 or so calls and emails, they admitted they did not access the dockets/receipts and as most of the transactions used a pin it was down to me to pay and that was that, after reading the other reviews on here it seems like they just can't be bothered doing their job properly. I will be chatting to the ombudsman now as I can see I'm not on my own here. Move onto this year, as with most of us, COVID has affected us all in some ways, after I put my mortgage on hold for a few months to see how things played out I just called to see what my options were moving forward and wanted to change from interest-only to interest and principle which you think would be music to their ears given the current state of the economy and to decrease the interest that has accrued over the past few months but no! By way of background I have 9 months left of a fixed interest-only mortgage and was told there is no way of me swapping to principal and interest without paying 11k break fees even though I was willing to keep the mortgage with them and lock in a new 3 or 5-year deal. How short-sighted and economically irresponsible they are, they should be trying everything they can to assist long-term customers especially with the current COVID financial climate but instead they look to make things harder. Surely someone at a senior level must have the hindsight to see their policies serve nothing but to annoy and drive customers away...? Come July I won't be a customer that's for sure... Shame on you Bankwest & Commbank for letting this happen and hopefully a potential customer reads this and goes with a bank with ethics."

"Don't do it. Retail banking - it's all about pointless sales & KPIs that are always just out of reach, not customer service. Corporate & IT - stopped me from returning from maternty leave by transferring my partner to the bush and leaving me in Perth with a newborn. Pathetic. Then they went on to feature prominently at the BRC. Staff still can't be bothered helping customers and many branch enquirires are handballed around from one dept. to another. Old habits die hard.Thank you for your feedback. "To be clear I worked at Bankwest before Covid-19, however I have never been as sick as I was working at their head office. 4 rounds of colds and flu within the first 3 months, one after the other, prior to that over a year without even a sniffle. This is what hotdesking does, and Covid-19 would love it. At the time there were zero boxes of tissues. A number of times I wandered the floors looking for the supply closets to find tissues only to come away empty handed. No paper towels in the toilets either, so blow your nose in the kitchen? So you bring in your own tissues, and because of the scarcity you're all of a sudden the most popular person in the office but now without any tissues. No bins either, so while you're sniffing and blowing every 2 to 5 minutes there is nowhere to put your growing pile of disease except the bins in the, again, kitchen. It can take 1 to 2 minutes to walk to the kitchen, then 1 to 2 minutes back, unlock computer, oh gotta blow again, lock computer, rinse and repeat and zero work done. Your desk is now a disease filled petri dish ready for whoever sits there tomorrow because, odds are, someone will get there before you. The first time I got sick I decided that I was well enough to work but for the sake of my colleagues it would be better if I worked from home. After calling my manager who was, lets face it, a self involved office psychopath (every tale of mirth that spewed from his mouth was at the expense of some unfortunate individual. Self deprecation is an alien concept to him, and if observed by him considered a weakness.) I wasThanks for raising your concerns. "It is a phone based job. The team was asked to arrive work early and leave work late to ensure the full 8 hours phone time. Team leader didn't care a lot about her work, didn't have the ability to deal with any incident coming from the customers and the team. Used dating app during working hours and micromanaging. "Worked there for many years, no opportunity to advance only if you suck up to the managers. They prefer yes people who blindly follow orders even if it is wrong. They also frown on females getting pregnant and you get made redundant if you do. It’s mainly a boys club environment. And depends on who you work for. "One of the worst experienced in my working career. Procurement team was a mess due to the manager only hiring specific "yes sir" people. The experienced contract managers carried the whole team. The managers and senior managers were shocking no values or people culture. They may advertise it internally but it isn't enforced with management. There is encouragement of backstabbing and throwing others under the bus. Senior management ignores any issues. Worse experience ever. "I worked about a year at Bank West doing Agent reconciliation. At the time they were stopping the agent processing and closing smaller rural agent banks. I was there to finalise the last 6 agents with the prospect of Bank telling. The training was great, however they did 3 monthly evaluations on your work and I sometimes was graded incorrectly. Although I had done my job I would be marked as not done on some areas. It was all to do with being enthusiastic about the company, being a quick learner and super keen. I just did the job properly and wanted to move on into Child Care, or teacher training."

Team Culture depends a lot on which team you end up, can be great.
